Self-Compassion and Emotional Resilience

Kristin Neff, PH.D.

Self-compassion involves treating ourselves kindly, just like we would a good friend we cared about. Rather than continually judging and criticizing ourselves, self-compassion involves generating kindness toward ourselves as imperfect humans, and learning to be present with the inevitable struggles of life with greater acceptance. It motivates us to make needed changes in our lives not because we’re worthless or inadequate, but because we care about ourselves and want to lessen our suffering.  This workshop will provide tools for responding in a kind, supportive way whenever we are experiencing painful emotions. We all want to avoid pain, but letting it in—and responding compassionately to our own imperfections without harsh self-condemnation—are essential steps toward living happier, more fulfilling lives. Using lecture, scientific research, and experiential exercises you will learn how to stop being so hard on yourself and to handle difficult emotions with greater ease.  Practices will also be introduced for helping professionals to deal with work stress, so that they can emotionally nurture themselves and develop greater equanimity in their caregiving roles.

Kristin is also featured in the bestselling book and award-winning documentary The Horse Boy (www.horseboyworld.com), which chronicles her family’s journey to Mongolia where they trekked on horseback to find healing for her autistic son.

Andrée Jetté
For Better and for Laughter:
How to Manage your Energy Capital

Do you sometimes finish your day drained of all energy? Do you feel a need to change your life style, your location or your place of employment?  Do you feel like responsibilities are dragging you down? A solution is needed and may be found once you understand your personal energy capital.  This presentation relates to the rapport we undertake with others, as well as with ourselves.

Do you enjoy a good meal and perhaps an excellent bottle of wine? So, you are, in this way, stimulating your endorphins just as much as you would be listening to the type of music you appreciate, getting a good massage, dancing or watching a movie. Laughing is without a doubt the easiest and most efficient way to stimulate your pituitary gland where her friends, the endorphins and the catecholamines are being produced.
The medical body is becoming more and more aware of the virtues of laughter. In fact, the science of psycho-neuro-immunology, which is studying the effects of mental attitudes on the immune system is proving that it is weakened when people are under stress, depressed or are feeling lonely.

You will learn how through some associations, you lose energy rather than gain strength. It is definitely possible to balance your day and maintain a good distance from “Chronic fatigue” or “Burnout”.  While relaxing,  you will be given a set of Energy Management tools.
